American Airlines’ August 27 announcement brings the tracker to 21 new U.S.–Europe routes for Summer 2027, just two days after United unveiled the largest international expansion in its history.

For Reperio, one route stands above the rest. United will launch daily Airbus A321XLR service between Newark and Marseille, the culmination of a year-long campaign with Marseille Provence Airport, our first airport client.

What stands out so far

United is responsible for 11 of the 21 routes and 52 weekly departures in each direction. More importantly, all seven routes introducing nonstop European destinations from the United States are part of United’s expansion: Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ljubljana, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille and Terceira.

American follows with six routes and 42 weekly departures. Four will use the Airbus A321XLR, while Reykjavik receives the A321neo and Charlotte–Barcelona will operate with the Boeing 777-200ER. Philadelphia–Vienna will continue through early January 2028, giving the route a substantially longer season than a traditional summer service. AA will be the only U.S. carrier in Vienna.

The Airbus A321XLR is the main star of the show. United and American will deploy it on nine of the 21 routes, representing 56 weekly flights in each direction. Including the A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX 8 routes, narrowbody aircraft will operate more than half of the new services announced so far.

My home country, France is the largest beneficiary, with six new routes and 40 weekly flights from six U.S. gateways to Paris, Nice, Toulouse and Marseille.

Alaska adds eight weekly transatlantic departures from Seattle. Athens will become the first nonstop connection between the Pacific Northwest and Greece, while Paris places Alaska in direct competition with Air France and Delta.

No genuinely new Canada–Europe city pair has yet been announced specifically for Summer 2027.

Methodology

The tracker includes scheduled nonstop passenger routes between the United States or Canada and Europe that are new to the operating airline for Summer 2027. This includes new city pairs to destinations an airline already serves from another hub.

Relaunches are included and identified where relevant. Philadelphia–Reykjavik, for example, marks American’s return to Iceland for the first time since 2019.

Additional frequencies and seasonal extensions are excluded. American’s fourth daily New York JFK–London Heathrow flight and the extended seasons on Charlotte–Paris and Miami–Milan are therefore not counted. Asian routes are also excluded.

Bold routes introduce nonstop European destinations from the United States. Frequencies represent the peak published schedule and are shown in each direction.

The announcement date is the date on which the airline first publicly confirmed the route. Philadelphia–Porto therefore retains its original February 5 announcement date rather than the date of American’s broader August network announcement.
